Welcome to my class.

Our class, along with Miss Simpson's students have raised funds to donate to UNICEF for the people in Haiti.  The students were very concerned about the lack of food, housing, and health care for the children of Haiti.  They researched about the country and the problems the earthquake caused.  Then they set a goal for a service project.  They wanted to raise at least $300.  Students wrote letters to important people in their lives asking for help and donations.  They wrote to their school principal, their parents, and community leaders.  They made posters and small adverts to help others understand the problem. Students made collages of Haiti’s pleasant ocean scenery in art class.  Then, they got to work.  Students working with Miss Simpson made bracelets, necklaces, and rings, which were sold at a “store” during the school’s lunch period.  The 4th grade students in Mrs. Wall’s class worked hard in school writing and reading about Haiti.  At home, they did many things to raise funds such as babysitting and cleaning for money, selling homemade fudge, running a hot chocolate stand, and performing a magic show.  Some students made quilts and others asked for donations from their family and friends. The students raised more than $1,400.  In addition to the service project, the students wrote to President Obama, Senator Hatch, and Congressman Chaffetz asking them to do what they could to help.  Students know that they can make the world a better place by working together and making their voices heard.

We went on a field trip to Jordanelle State Park in February.  Students classified plants and animals from the local area and went snow shoeing.

Last month our class participated in activities about animal adaptations with the Museum of the Move Program through University of Utah.
